Foundations for Tall Buildings

Good foundation design is important in all buildings, and even more so in the case of tall buildings. This work represents a study of the design of foundation for tall buildings (i.e., 50- and 100-storied Framed Tube and Diagrid systems) subjected to static vertical and wind load calculated by ETABS.

From the base reactions obtained, pile, mat and combined pile-mat foundation are designed. Among them the combined pile-mat foundation is found to be the most economical. Among the earth-retaining systems; i.e., cantilever type retaining wall and braced excavation are also designed.

Since ground floor column reactions of the Diagrid system are much higher, its foundations are thicker and require more reinforcements.
