The newly admitted students in Spring 08 semester of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) were accorded a reception on 30 April 08 in the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall of the National Museum, Shahbagh, Dhaka. More than 600 students got admission in eight departments of the university in graduate and undergraduate courses. Prof. Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Mr. A. A. Moniruzzaman, Acting-Chairman of the UAP Foundation was the Special Guest. The function was presided over by Prof. Dr. Abdul Matin Patwari, VC, UAP. Prof. Nazrul Islam, in his address, urged the newly admitted students to take full advantage of the academic and co-curricular facilities provided by the University and asked the authorities to offer increasing opportunities to the students to develop their full potentials. He said that the UGC was fully aware of the needs of the private universities and had been trying to address the critical issues as quickly as possible. Mr. Moniruzzaman, in his address, highlighted the steps taken by the Board to construct a permanent campus for the UAP in Green Road, Dhaka. The Vice Chancellor, in his presidential address, highlighted the all-round achievements made by the UAP in a short span of 12 (Twelve) years. He assured the students and guardians that the University will make every effort to provide the students with the best possible academic environment and facilities. He advised the students to devote wholeheartedly in the pursuit of knowledge and develop themselves as worthy citizens of the country. The function was also addressed by the Pro-VC, Treasurer and the Registrar. The function was rounded off with a colourful variety show organised by the students.
