To display our fraternity with the flood affected people, Department of Pharmacy manufactured huge number of ORS (Oral Re-hydration Salt) and WPS (water purification Solution) by using their own manufacturing facilities and manpower (students, teachers & staffs). GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) was strictly followed and the quality of these products were ensured. Department distributed these products with different relief items including cloths, rice and cash money among the distressed people of Lalmunirhat, Shirajganj, Manikganj, Bhairab and Hatibandha.

Seminars and Short Course at the Department
With the patronization of the Roche Bangladesh a seminar on “Hepatitis C: The Silent Killer” was held on August 14, 2007 to emphasize the importance and virulence of Hepatitis C. The Keynote speaker was Dr. Shahinur Islam from the department of hepatology, BSMMU. Prof. Dr. Abdul Matin Patawary, Vice Chancellor of UAP was the chief guest of the program. Prof. M R Kabir, Pro Vice Chancellor, Mr. Isfaq Ilahi Chowdhury, Registrar of UAP, all faculty members of the department and a good number of students also enjoyed the program. In this occasion Roche Bangladesh also provided us free Hepatitis C test to screen out the affected people from the students, staffs and faculty members of this department.

|Seminar on “OPTIMIZING CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES- SKILLS SET REQUIRED” was held in Pharmacy Department, The University of Asia Pacific on 24th October, 2007 at 11.00 am. Dr. Imran Ahmed was key note speaker of the seminar. Dr Ahmed is Associate director and Fellow in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Pfizer Pharmaceutical Research and development headquarters located at Groton, Connecticut, U.S.A. Students and faculties of Pharmacy Department, UAP were attended the seminar. Dr. Ahmed described the recent development in Pharmaceutical sector and global job facility of our Pharmacist. He elaborately described the various phases of new drug development for the treatment of atherosclerosis, hypertension, obesity and diabetes which is very helpful for design new drugs and modification of existing drugs. A short course (12 hours duration) on nutrition has been introduced to the fourth year student by Ms parveen Zaman from 23rd -25th September, 2007. This course is helpful for our students to expand their basic nutritional skills, and how to overcome different diseases with proper balanced food.

It started with a study tour to India. A total of 24 students’ of fourth year 1st semester and fourth year 2nd semester with the assistance of teachers went on 26th January and returned safely on 9th February, 2007. The tour involved visit to Calcutta, Jaipur, Agra, Delhi, Shimla and Manali. They also visited the pharmacy department of Jadavpur University and exchanged their experience with the faculty members and students of that University. Our students and faculties were also informed about their research, academic curriculum, laboratory facilities etc. They also invited them to visit Bangladesh specially our university.

Students of pharmacy department organized a charity Film Festival to help the destitute 2 years old child named Emon suffering from Kidney disease. It took place on the pharmacy auditorium. Students raise a handsome amount and handed it over to the Childs parents.

Blood donation program:
On 11th July, the social awareness club of the pharmacy department with the help of Sandhani made a day long program on Blood donation. A huge number of students donated blood. These have been donated to the different government hospitals to help boost up the capacity of blood bank.

Vaccination program in Pharmacy Department:
In the beginning of each semester a Hepatitis B vaccination program is arranged by the Pharmacy Social Awareness Club. Newly admitted student of all departments and their relatives can take this vaccine. Through out the year, there was a day long program after every two months for hepatitis B vaccination.

Cultivation of medicinal plants:
The department has taken a great to cultivate different common and uncommon plants have medicinal value and most of them used locally for the treatment of various diseases.
