On Wednesday,20 November, 2019, an MoU signing ceremony between the department of Civil Engineering, University of Asia Pacific and SMEC, Bangladesh was held at the Vice- Chancellor’s conference room at 4:00 pm. After the ceremony and prayer break, a seminar on "Karnaphuli Tunnel" was held at the Auditorium Complex, University of Asia Pacific starting from 5:30 pm with a spontaneous presence of nearly 300 students and the faculty members . Dr. Sayeed Ahmed, Executive Director, SMEC, Bangladesh, Mr. Gavin Strid, Project Manager, Karnaphuli Tunnel Project and Mr. David Kern, Construction Manager, Karnaphuli Tunnel Project were the guest speakers.

At first, Dr. Sayeed Ahmed briefly introduced the background and current projects of SMEC. Then, Mr. Gavin Strid highlighted different technical aspects and challenges of the ongoing Karnaphuli Tunnel Projects and finally Mr. David Kern talked elaborately on different kinds of tunnels and their applicability.

After that, there was a short Q&A session where the speakers invited questions from our students.

After the session, honorable Vice-Chancellor sir delivered a short speech and presented a crest to Dr. Sayeed Ahmed as a token of our gratitude. Finally, Dr. Farzana Rahman, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Asia Pacific, gave a concluding speech and thereby the seminar officially ended.
