A seminar on “Transportation and Structural Aspects of Dhaka Metro Rail” was held on 7th August, 2021 organized by UAP CE Seminar Series.
The seminar was inaugurated by the opening speech of Dr. Md Ashraful Alam, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Asia Pacific. He introduced and greeted the key speaker of the seminar, who is currently in charge of Dhaka Metro Rail Project as an Additional Project Director, Dr. Md. Moshiur Rahman. And then another honorable faculty member, Dean of School of Engineering, University of Asia Pacific, Dr. Muhammad Mizanur Rahaman thanked the key speaker and also the students for their presence in his welcoming speech and lecturer Zarin Tasnim hosted the event.
Dr. Md. Moshiur Rahman started his presentation describing the various aspects of the Dhaka Metro Rail Project planning and construction. The transportation aspects of the Dhaka Metro Rail was a major part of this seminar. He described the policies that were taken for time bound action plan of different lines with a descriptive introduction of metro rail routes. Dr. Md. Moshiur Rahman also described the various challenges that needed to be faced including- planning, financial, construction and operational challenges during the project.
Dr. Md. Moshiur Rahman, at the end of his speech, had drawn the focus on a very important thing, lack of skill and knowledge regarding building a metro or rail line and even a station plaza, among the engineers and urban planners. So he requested the honorable faculty members to emphasize more on these parts and to include these in the syllabus.
After the speech, about an hour long Q&A session was held where students asked various question with enthusiasm, regarding metro rail planning, design and career aspects. Dr. Md. Moshiur Rahman answered all the questions passionately and hoped for engaging more UAP students on the project.
The seminar was ended by a short speech from Dr. Md Ashraful Alam, followed by some words of appreciation from Dr. Muhammad Mizanur Rahaman as well.
