Focused group discussion on “rescheduling financial loans” held at Barishal

 

On Tuesday 9 March, 2021, at the Convention Hall of Garden Inn Restaurant of Barisal City, a Focused Group Discussion was held as a part of academic legal research titled “Defaulted Loans & Abusing Legal Process to Avoid Repayment: Analyzing the Banking Laws of Bangladesh”. This program was organized under supervision of Law and Human Rights Department of the University of Asia Pacific. The research is being funded by the Institution of Energy, Environment, Research and Development (IEERD), UAP.

AZM Shahiduzzaman Khan, Senior Lawyer and Former President District Bar Association, Barisal was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion. Md. Rafiqul Islam Khokon, Panel Mayor of Barisal City Corporation and General Secretary of District Bar Association, Barisal as Special Guest. Md. Kamrul Islam, AGM, Basic Bank Barisal Division was also present on the occasion as special guest. This program was chaired by Md. Firoz Mahmud Khan, Senior Advocate Bangladesh Supreme Court and former President District Bar Association Barisal. A group of Lawyers, Academics, Representative of Banks, Businessmen, Apprentice Lawyers and students were present in the seminar.

Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Associate Professor, Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific; Md. Saleh Akram, Assistant Professor; Ms. Azizun Nahar, Assistant Professor; Sheikh Noman Parvez, Research Fellow of the Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific are associate with the study. The study will discuss the problems of non-recovery of defaulted loans in the banking sector and discuss the legal dilemma regarding this.
