Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury Memorial Debate held at UAP

On 4 February 2021, a Parliamentary debate, dedicated to Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Former Vice Chancellor of UAP, was organized online by Debating and Public Speaking Club (DPSC). The topic of the debate was “This parliament thinks that the media does not speak for the people”, where “All-stars” (debaters from the department of Architecture, English and Pharmacy) spoke for the motion (opposition) and Department of Law and Human Rights (L&HR) spoke against the motion (Treasury Bench).

Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, DSW, in his welcome speech, said that DSW kept organizing its co-curricular activities even during the COVID-19 pandemic situation to enliven the student-life and develop their soft-skill set. He shared with the audience that Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury was not only an eminent Engineer and academician, he was also very good in co-curricular activities including debate. The Director, DSW appreciated the efforts put by the Adviser of the club- Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Assoc. Prof., Dept. of L&HR, the debaters and the club members.

Ms. Tazrin Islam Tonny, Former President of Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization (JUDO) and Mr. Khandokar Nasim, Vice President, Group of Liberal Debater Bangladesh (GOLD), Rajshahi University attended the event as Judges. The whole event was broadcasted live on DPSC’s official Facebook page and also shared on UAP Facebook Page.

The debaters presented facts and logic to their best effort and made their cases convincing. At the end, the Parliamentary debate was declared as draw, it was a 1-1 win, for both teams. The show turned out to be very fascinating and highly captivating.

Mr. Hasibul Iqbal Sifat, former debater of DPSC, UAP acted as the Speaker of the Parliament. The programme was ended by the vote of thanks of Mr. Md. Tarek Khan, AD, DSW.
