On 4th May 2026, the Social Counselling Center (SCC), under the Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW) at the University of Asia Pacific, successfully organized a Trauma Management Workshop in the university auditorium. Ms. Ayesha Islam and Mr. Md Moin Khan both the Socio Counselors of University of Asia Pacific facilitated the workshop for the many participating students.
The proceedings were further distinguished by the active involvement of faculty deans, whose attendance underscored the institution's dedication to advancing mental health awareness and the psychological welfare of the student body. Mr. Mohammad Rakiv, Director, DSW, UAP delivered an welcome speech and then Dean, school of Environmental Science and design , prof. Dr. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed, Dean, school of Pharmacy, Prof.. Dr. Mohammad Shahriar and Dean (Acting) , school of Business, Law and social science . Prof. Dr. Nazma Begum delivered their valuable speech.
The session began with ice-breaking activities and moved into explaining various forms of trauma, including acute, chronic, complex, developmental, historical, medical, and secondary trauma. A key focus was on trauma bonding, described as an unhealthy emotional attachment between a victim and an abuser, often reinforced through cycles of abuse and affection. The presentation also outlined the wide-ranging consequences of trauma across cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and physical domains, highlighting how trauma disrupts overall functioning. The session further explored Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), explaining its definition, symptoms, and impact. The volunteers of social counselling center who are the students of different department of UAP acted an amazing role play on PTSD and received a lot of applause.
psychotherapy, medication, and self-care practices. Techniques such as screen method, grounding exercises, maintaining a healthy routine, seeking social support, and engaging in positive and relaxing activities were encouraged to help individuals manage trauma and promote recovery.
In the end, what they were getting out of this workshop was asked to reflect on. The concluding part took place by giving and receiving thanks and warm wishes from the students.
