Department of Pharmacy, UAP Hosted Parliamentary Debate Competition on Constitutional Reform and Democracy

The Department of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific (UAP), organized the Parliamentary Encounter 2024, a debate competition centered on the motion “This House would reform the Constitution to strengthen democracy.”

The event, held on 23rd September 2024 with the motion “এই সংসদ মনে করে, সংবিধান সংস্কারই দেশের গণতান্ত্রিক কাঠামোকে সুরক্ষিত করতে পারে”.

The event was attended by esteemed guests, faculty members, and students. Among the distinguished guests were Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Dean of the School of Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Irin Dewan, Head of the Department of Pharmacy. The event also welcomed Mr. Saiyed Abdullah, an educator and human rights activist, as the Guest of Honour, and Mr. Alamzeb Farjad Ahmed, a member of the UAP Board of Trustees.

The competition saw passionate debates on constitutional reform, highlighting its importance to the future of democracy. Teams presented well-researched arguments on both sides of the motion, showcasing their critical thinking, and debating skills. The runner-up and champion teams were awarded trophies and medals for their outstanding performances.

At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Irin Dewan delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Convener, Ms. Salsabil Islam, Lecturer, and Co-convener, Mr. Abir Hasan Pranto, Lecturer, for their excellent coordination. She also praised the entire organizing team for successfully arranging the event. The competition was a great success, reflecting UAP’s commitment to fostering intellectual growth and democratic values.
