On 8th February 2024, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) hosted a grand celebration in honor of 27 brilliant Bangladeshi students who excelled at the World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC) 2024. The event, co-organized by UAP and The University Press Limited (UPL), highlighted the extraordinary achievements of these students and their contributions to the nation's growing presence on the global academic stage.
The ceremony was graced by Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, the Honorable Education Adviser, who commended the young mathematicians for their outstanding performance. In his address, Dr. Mahmud praised their dedication and intellect, emphasizing that their accomplishments showcased the global potential of Bangladeshi talent.
The event also featured an insightful panel discussion moderated by education researcher Rakhal Raha, Panelists included Dr. Hasina Khan, Former Professor from the Department of Biochemistry and Bioengineering at Dhaka University; Dr. Kamrul Hasan Mamun, Professor in the Department of Physics at Dhaka University; Dr. Mahbub Majumder, Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at BRAC University and instructor for the Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad; Dr. Saifur Rahman Bakaul, Chairman of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Aviation and Aerospace University of Bangladesh and Group Captain in the Bangladesh Air Force; Dr. G. R. Ahmed Jamal, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Asia Pacific; and Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Academic Counselor for the Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad Committee and engineer at Geocal USA.
A key highlight of the event was a presentation by the co-founders of Banglar Math—Ahmed Sharif, S.M. Mahtab Hossain, and Ashraful Al Shakur. Their tireless efforts in building a platform for young mathematicians in Bangladesh were recognized for playing a crucial role in preparing the students for such global competitions.
In attendance were numerous distinguished guests, including Professor Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Vice-Chancellor of UAP, Ms. Mahrukh Mohiuddin, Managing Director of UPL, Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of South East University. Their collective presence underscored the importance of educational collaboration in advancing the country’s academic reputation.
The students from both primary and secondary levels (4th to 12th levels) participated in the competition at Qatar, Doha in November, 2024.
This historic achievement in WMTC 2024 not only showcased the brilliance of Bangladeshi students but also reinforced the strength and potential of Bangladesh's educational framework. UAP’s role in supporting and facilitating such events demonstrates its commitment to fostering excellence in education and providing a platform for young talents to shine on the world stage.
