UAP Hosts 233rd BELTA EC Meeting

The University of Asia Pacific (UAP) hosted the 233rd Executive Committee Meeting of the Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA) on Saturday, 16 August 2025, at its BOT Conference Room. This significant session also marked the first official gathering of BELTA’s newly formed Executive Committee for the 2025–27 term.

Founded in 1984, BELTA is the country’s oldest and most prominent professional association of English language educators and researchers. Over the decades, it has spearheaded professional development, international collaboration, and teacher training nationwide. Holding this important meeting at UAP not only strengthened BELTA’s legacy but also enhanced UAP’s profile as a leading institution committed to academic excellence and collaboration.

The meeting opened with a welcome address from BELTA President Professor Ahmed Bashir, followed by inspiring remarks from its Advisor Professor Arifa Rahman and Immediate Past President Professor Rubina Khan. The event was attended by distinguished ELT scholars and practitioners, including the Director General of the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) Professor Dr. Zulfeqar Haider, Professor Shaila Sultana from BRAC University, Dr. Mohibullah from International Islamic University, Dr. Shaiful Islam from Independent University, Bangladesh, Dr. Akhter Jahan from East West University, Dr. Kh. Atikur Rahman from Bangladesh Maritime University, Dr. Prodhan Mahbub Ibna Siraj from American International University Bangladesh and Professor Zakia Sultana from Adamjee Cantonment College, among others. Their active participation enriched the discussions on BELTA’s strategic directions and goals.

It may be noted that Mr. Takad Ahmed Chowdhury, Head, Department of English, is serving as the Vice President (1) in the prestigious BELTA Executive Committee for the 2025–27 term. The occasion underscored the vital role of UAP’s Department of English in advancing academic innovation, professional networking, and institutional collaboration in English language education. His election to BELTA’s top leadership not only stands as a personal achievement but also reflects the national and professional admiration for UAP and its Department of English.

All the attendees appreciated UAP’s academic vision, hospitality and collaborative spirit. The successful hosting of the event reaffirmed UAP’s commitment to advancing professional collaboration and contributing to English language education both nationally and globally.
