In observance of IEEE Day 2024, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), UAP organized an industrial visit for the members of the IEEE UAP Student Branch and IEEE UAP Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group (AG) to Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd., Bangladesh Navy, Narayanganj. This event welcomed 55 IEEE members from all academic years, providing them with a unique opportunity to witness advanced engineering practices and operational processes at this esteemed naval facility. The visit was guided by Dr. Munshi Mahbubur Rahman, Muhammad Ahad Rahman Miahand Tanima Tasmin Chowdhury.
During the visit, students were guided by skilled professionals through various technical projects within the dockyard. They observed firsthand how engineering principles are applied in real-world naval applications, deepening their understanding of the dockyard’s contributions to national defense and technological progress.
Dockyard professionals showcased a variety of advanced machine tools used in ship manufacturing, providing an in-depth look into the engineering and precision required in naval construction. Students observed machines for cutting, welding, and shaping heavy-duty materials, each crucial in building and assembling different components of ships.
The professionals explained each stage of the shipbuilding process—from the initial design and material selection to assembly, welding, and quality testing.
This detailed demonstration offered students a comprehensive view of the intricate processes involved in crafting vessels that meet the rigorous standards necessary for naval operations.
This experience was highly beneficial, broadening participants' perspectives on engineering’s societal impact and inspiring a greater appreciation for the field’s role in critical national infrastructure. The IEEE UAP Student Branch is proud to share insights and highlights from this enlightening visit, capturing the dedication and excellence that underscore both the IEEE community and the engineering profession.
