Professor Dr. Tanveer Ferdous Saeed of Civil Engineering Department, University of Asia Pacific and an associate fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences received a prestigious grant on 8th June 2021 from the Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBEIS), Ministry of Education, The Government of Bangladesh to conduct rigorous research on landfill leachate treatment employing energy-producing wastewater treatment technologies.
Dr. Nehreen Majed, Associate Professor of the Civil Engineering Department is the co-investigator of the grant project. It is expected that the results of this research project will trigger the implementation of energy producing green constructed wetlands for leachate and other wastewater treatment of Bangladesh, which is a major environmental concern of the country.
Prof. Saeed also gained funding for research from private sectors including WaterAid Bangladesh and Institute of Energy, Environment, Research and Development (IEERD) of University of Asia Pacific to conduct his research on wastewater treatment in Bangladesh.
Under the supervision of Prof. Saeed, Dr. Majed and Dr. Miah, natural floating constructed wetland technology is now being implemented by the WASA for increasing the treatment performance of the Saidabad drinking water treatment plant. Because of his outstanding contribution, Prof. Saeed received national and international awards, including University Grants Commission Gold medal award for two times. He published many peer-reviewed journal articles on wastewater treatment in Bangladesh.
