Social Counselling Centre of University of Asia Pacific organized an online workshop on “Healing Own-Self” with the students of UAP on 23 September, 2021. Ms. Zohora Parveen, a Clinical Psychologist and Consultant from Nasirullah Psychotherapy Unit (NPU) of University of Dhaka was the facilitator of the workshop. Mst. Farjana Yasmin, Socio Counsellor of UAP was the coordinator of this program.
Healing is the process of managing psychological issues and problems. When a person suffers from any psychological issues, s/he might develop unhealthy pattern of behaviors and dysfunctional ways of coping with it. The aim of the workshop was to focus on management strategies of these issues.
Ms. Afroza A. Suchona, Asst Prof, Dept. of English was present at the workshop. In her welcome speech, she said that this workshop was very much needed and appropriate to the current situation. Mr. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director of Directorate of Students’ Welfare said that Social Counselling Centre is providing services at UAP from more than four years in an excellent way. They arranges different outreach programs along with its regular counselling services. He encouraged the students to take services whenever needed.
Ms. Zohora Parveen focused on different core beliefs and their functioning procedure, the root causes of low self-esteem, suicidal ideation identification and suicide preventive measures. She conducted some activity for creating hope through action and increasing self-acceptance. She also discussed about circumstantial management strategy.
Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer and Director of DSW, UAP was present at the workshop. He said that a student might suffer from psychological stress for different reason. He encouraged the students to participate spontaneously to the workshop. He appreciated that Social Counselling Centre is arranging such kinds of program in a regular basis. During the Q&A session, the students shared their experiences and the problems they faced every day. Those problems and their managements were discussed. The participants expressed that the session was helpful and very effective for them.
