UAP English Alumnus Awarded Prestigious ICCR Scholarship

Imamul Mottakin, an alumnus of the Department of English at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP), has been awarded the prestigious Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic session. This fully funded scholarship will enable him to pursue an MA in World Literature in English at Nalanda University, India. The ICCR Scholarship, initiated by India’s first Education Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, covers all major expenses, including tuition, accommodation, food, a living stipend, and airfare.

Imamul’s journey at UAP was marked by academic excellence and outstanding involvement in extracurricular activities. Graduating with a BA (Honors) in English, he received two Vice Chancellor’s Awards and a Dean’s Award for his exceptional academic performance at UAP. He also earned recognition for his extracurricular achievements, including the Best Reader Award from The Daily Star, Bangladesh’s leading English newspaper, in 2018. Imamul’s talents shone brightly in UAP’s English Department Drama Fest, where he was named Best Script Writer in Fall 2016 for his adaptation of Anita Desai’s Games at Twilight and Best Director in Spring 2017 for his production of William Shakespeare’s Othello.

Imamul’s academic contributions extended well beyond UAP. He presented a paper on The Traces of Revolution in Shelley’s Ode to the West Wind at the 5th DEH Inter-University Students’ Conference and Cultural Competition hosted by the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) in 2019. In May 2023, he presented a poster on the Representation of Subaltern Women in Shahidul Zahir’s Short Stories at the Conference on Mapping Gendered Spaces in Language, Literature, and Culture, organized by Dhaka University.

Imamul’s academic rigor, creative engagement, and research skills have made him an exemplary candidate for Nalanda University, which is known for its legacy of academic excellence and global influence as the world’s oldest residential university.
