On 21st February 2022 evening, UAP celebrated International Mother Language Day through an online event where a discussion programme was held followed by a beautiful cultural programme. The event was live telecasted on the verified Facebook page of UAP.
The program was presided by Dr. M. Alauddin, Chairman, Board of Trustees. Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Treasurer and Director, DSW welcomed all at the outset. The Vice Chancellor of UAP Prof. Dr. Qumrul Ahsan in his speech highlighted many important aspects of the language movement of 1952 and the importance of usages of Bangla language in our daily life, especially in the information age tools, e.g., internet, computer. Dr. Alauddin in his speech as the Chief Guest paid rich homage to the language martyrs. He emphasized on the importance of carrying out research using Bangla in every sector to maximize the opportunities provided in the 4th industrial revolution (4iR).
Prof. Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam, renowned Writer and Literary Critic, in his speech as a special guest, emphasized on using mother language in our individual and social life. Prof. Islam mentioned that the language movement of 1952 accelerated the Bengali nationalism leading to the Liberation War and creation of Bangladesh. Mr. Wahid Kaisar, Lecturer, Department of English and Mr. Fahmy Islam, Student of Department of Computer science and Engineering shared their thoughts on “Amor Ekushey” as representatives of the new generation. A cultural programme was arranged afterwards where songs and dances were performed by the students of different departments.
Among others, the programme was also attended by the members of BOT, faculty members, officials and students from different departments. Ms. Layeqa Bashir, Assistant Professor, BS&H and Adviser, UAP Cultural Club ended the event with a vote of thanks.
