Dept. of EEE organizes a virtual discussion on “Linkage between Industry and Academia and development of soft skills” with the Industrial Advisory Panel

The department of EEE arranged a virtual meeting on 28 August, 2021 with the ‘Industrial Advisory Panel of Dept. of EEE’. The discussion was focused on how to create an effective linkage between the Industry and Academia and how to obtain an Industry friendly Outcome Based Education (OBE) and grow soft skills of the graduates.

The advisors working in different well reputed Industries (BTCL, Grameenphone, Ericsson Bangladesh, Energypac Engineering Limited, Bergen Engines Bangladesh Pvt. Ltd etc.) were present along with the Dean of School of Engineering, Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahaman and the senior faculties of the dept. of EEE.

The members of Industrial Advisory Panel opined that the internship is of great importance to enable the graduates solving real life problems and to engage them in lifelong learning. To increase the industry involvement several other ways are also suggestions such arranging single day industrial visit, industrial training/attachment and industry-based research/thesis work. The limitations were also discussed such as the number of industries is limited for accommodating all the students.

Regarding the soft skills development, all advisors emphasized that it is utmost important to develop various soft skills such as leadership skill, communication skill, right attitude, etc. of a graduate. Bringing industry experts for special classes for the students can be one way to introduce industry concepts, management skills, leadership skills, communication skills etc.

At the end all agreed that, industry feedback is essential and this kind of session needs to arranged to know the right knowledge, skill and attitude that are needed for the industry. Dean, Schools of Engineering shared his valuable thoughts about the need of Industrial involvement. Finally, Dr. Tasnia Hossain, Head of the Dept. of EEE ended the meeting with a vote of thanks.
