Grand Finale of the Debate Competition, Photography Exhibition, and Prize-giving Ceremony on “Think COVID-19”

The Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Asia Pacific (UAP) has completed a series of inter-departmental and departmental co-curricular activities participated by all the departments in various categories on the theme of ‘Think COVID-19’. The program was wrapped up through the grand finale of inter-departmental debate competition, exhibition of selected photographs of the central photography competition and a prize-giving ceremony on 11 October 2022.

The department-based co-curricular activities with the theme of ‘Think COVID-19’ were held throughout Spring 2022. The departmental activities included skit competition, post-pandemic design idea competition, idea competition on the impact of COVID-19 on ICT, poster presentation on COVID-19 and human rights, quiz competition, competition on business plans during COVID-19, and competition on project plans. In addition, UAP central Debating and Public Speaking Club (ECDC) organized an inter-departmental debate competition and UAP central Photography Club organized an intra-university photography competition. All the events were focused on the theme of ‘Think COVID-19’.

The final round of the debate competition, held in front of a packed audience at the UAP auditorium, was enjoyed by the UAP Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sultan Mahmud, Treasurer and Dean, School of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, DSW Director Mr. Takad Ahmed Chowdhury, Heads and members of UAP faculty, and a large number of students. The Department of Architecture won the debate competition after a close final round victory over the Department of English. Both teams received loud cheers from the audience, who liked their oratory immensely. The day-long photography exhibition of the selected 50 photographs was jointly inaugurated at the UAP Plaza by Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Treasurer and Dean of the School of Medicine, and Mr. Takad Ahmed Chowdhury, Director, DSW.


The Prize-giving ceremony started with a welcome speech by Mr. Takad Ahmed Chowdhury, Director, DSW. He extended a hearty welcome to the honorable guests and everyone present. He thanked the UAP authority and all the departments for extending their cooperation in making the event a success. He gratefully acknowledged that this series of events was initially coordinated by Professor Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Treasurer, and Dean, the School of Medicine. Later, the Directorate of Students’ Welfare took over the responsibility.

The special guest of the occasion Prof. Dr. Md. Sultan Mahmud, Pro Vice Chancellor, UAP, noted that to give a ceremonial shift from the pandemic times to the regular time and to welcome the students back to the campus after such a difficult period, the authorities of UAP decided to arrange a series of competitions on co-curricular activities related to COVID-19. He appreciated the hard work by everyone concerned for the success of this event.

The Chief Guest of the program, Prof. Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Vice Chancellor, UAP, said that this series of co-curricular activities was an effort to take the good with the bad and to bring out the potential of the students that was hidden in the virtual world. He underscored the need of the students to grow their versatility to compete with the future world. He appreciated the efforts by all concerned in bringing out such a grand event. The honorable Vice Chancellor ensured all out support of the authorities in both curricular and co-curricular activities.
Finally, the prizes and accolades were distributed to the winners of the series of events by the Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, and Director, DSW.
